Call to give homeless broadband

The homeless should be given broadband internet access, John Prescott's office has said in a new report.
from: Call to give homeless broadband

The story highlights the support for the ideas in the report from Crisis - a charity dedicated to helping homeless people.

What this brings to mind is the fact that the digiatl boom of the nineties, which is going even faster now, creates a new, wider gap between different social groups, regardless if it is in one country or worldwide. One one side we have people exploiting the new frontier, trying to parcel out knowledge, so they have a big stake in the 'IP real estate' goldrush.

There is a staggering inequality between third world and the first on. There is inequality between the poor and the moneyed. And that is going to become even bigger, since while some people think of how to feed themselves and their families, others are able to feed their intellectual needs, yet others are able to get on the new property ladder.

And someone was claiming that the Internet Revolution is the big equaliser. Yes, I suppose that is true. As every revolution, it shakes the society. But who are the winners? Who are the loosers? Some of the loosers are the old school business people, who couldn't move on, ebrace change. Another big chunk of the loosers are those who can't possibly embraced the change, they are denied it, because it costs too much.

Long live the new elite. Try and get there.
